CARE FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS (2023-24)
In 2023-24, Pro Rodopi Foundation is implementing a new project aimed at children with special educational needs – “Care for Children with Special Educational Needs”, funded by the National Culture Fund under the Socially Engaged Arts program. The project contains 3 main groups of activities.
The first involves the creation of a new theatre performance with the working title “I Can”. It is the last part of a theatre trilogy aimed at children with special educational needs and developed by the artists from Pro Rodopi Art Centre, together with child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Zdravka Yaneva since 2013. The first two performances were “Yellow” and “Draw Me a Human”. The three parts of the trilogy focus on three main different aspects of a child’s neuro-psychological development.
Author of the concept and director is Petar Todorov. Actress and co-author is Desislava Mincheva. Set and costume designer is Hanna Schwartz. Child psychiatrist Dr. Zdravka Yaneva will be a consultant in the creation of the performance.
The second group of activities includes the distribution of the already finished performance in the fall of 2024 in 5 educational institutions selected by the Smolyan Regional Center for Special Educational Needs.
The performances for children with special educational needs will be free of charge.
The third group of activities includes the organization and conduct of a training module in Smolyan – a lecture by Dr. Zdravka Yaneva from the Center for Mental Health – Sofia. The topic is “Psychomotor” and the goal is for parents, resource teachers and educators of children with special educational needs from the Smolyan Region to become familiar with this aspect of the neuro-psychological development of a child.
After the lecture, the audience will ask questions to Dr. Yaneva and a discussion will take place. The training module will be organized by the Smolyan Regional Center for Special Educational Needs and its director Tatyana Boshnakova.
