Pro Rodopi Art Centre
Pro Rodopi Art Centre (PRAC) has been established in 2004 by Bulgarian theatre artists Petar Todorov and Desislava Mincheva in Bostina, Bulgaria. The main artistic profile of this independent enterpreneurship is object/puppet theatre and physical theatre, and the combination of both.
So far PRAC has premiered 12 own productions for adult and children audiences, incl. Anatomy of Extreme; Chick with a Trick; Delta; I, Thy Soul; Hair; Garbage for Plums; Ball Part 1; Ball Part 2; Yellow; Hotch-Potch; The Concert; Ball Part 3. Among international coproductions are ‘Homo Ludens’, ‘Munchausen – Your Personal Fantasy Trainer’, ‘Life is a Weired Dance’.
The shows have extensively toured worldwide incl. festivals and performances in Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Russia, Israel, USA, Pakistan, India, Singapore, Australia, China, Peru etc.
The shows of PRAC have been presented in theatres like ‘LaMaMa’ (New York) and ‘Young Vic’ (London).
Among large international festivals arround the world where the shows haveben invited are ‘Fidena’ (Germany), ‘Ishara Puppets’ (India), ‘Kidseuro’ and ‘Philadelphia Live Arts’ (USA), ‘Titirijai’ (Spain), ‘KukArt’ (Russia), ‘International Puppet Days’ (Turkey), ‘World Performing Arts Festival’ (Pakista) and more than 50 other.
Among Bulgarian festivals where the shows appeared are ‘Varna Summer’, ‘Two are not Enough, Three are too Many’, ‘Pierrot’, ‘Puppets Fair’, ‘ACT’, ‘Puppet Days’, Mothley Ruster’, ‘Aquarius Era’, ‘Adults Forbidden’ and many other.
The shows of Pro Rodopi Art Centre have been awarded various national and international theatre prizes, a.o. 2 nominations for the major theatre awards in Bulgaria ‘Ikarus’, 5 awards for Best show, 8 Acting awards, 1 award for set & puppet design at different festivals in Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Croatia etc.
Desislava Mincheva has been honoured the annual cultural awards of cities of Smolyan and Bourgas. Petar Todorov is a winner of Best Puppet Performance at ‘Ikarus’ Bulgarian National Theatre Awards.
Artistic director of PRAC is Petar Todorov.
Pro Rodopi Art Centre is the only Bulgarian member of Trans Europe Halles (www.teh.net).
